This a great photograph that really resembles the nature of San Francisco. Being a liberal city it's natural that you have people walking a different path than expected, or even ones predefined. This is reflected in the subject walking in the opposite direction to the automated 'waking man', which is dictated by statistics and rigidity. It perfectly represents the beating heart of San Francisco.
A timeless black and white photograph that you would expect to see in an exhibition - and would be disappointed not to. The cropping is near perfect and the contrast of dark and light is well balanced. Perhaps a little more cropping on the left hand side might push it a little more, as it simply evaporates into pure black.
A perfect picture to describe the heart of San Francisco, uncontrolled, unique, and free.
